first steps to learning smocking
I was pleased to receive my booklet, it's quite informative, all though I found the diagram with the measurement s a bit of a puzzle. The swotch of cotton to practice on was very useful and I could see clearly how the gathers were done.

Never judge a book by its cover
Never judge a book by its cover, when Christine suggested I look at One Stitch at a Time with Ellen McCarn I was worried. I read the second line of the cover - The Guide for Beginners in English Smocking, fear not it is ideal for all abilities. With clear diagrams of the two main basic Smocking stitches cable and wave, it is an excellent beginners' handbook, an aide memoir for the more experienced Smockers and a great inspiration for those wishing to push their Smocking forward and experiment. It takes you on a journey from the basics then shows imaginative ways to use the stitches with designs for cushion centres and collars. After completing a piece for a cushion - sorry not made up yet but just had to show you, I took some of the designs scaled them down and made some quick Christmas cards. One Stitch at a Time is great value for money and provides plenty of inspiration for big and small projects. Thank you Christine for introducing this book to me. Jacqueline Holmes

Beautifully Presented
This is a booklet of very high quality. Beautiful paper, large print, full colour photographs, and beautifully clear illustrations, make it a joy to own. The clarity does not end there but continues in the instructions. Thus despite previous reservations as to the likelihood of my having success in producing beautiful smocking I'm now fully determined to give it a try.
